Food Coloring, just like when you make home-made candy (called Hard Tack) its similar to Jolly Ranchers and you put the desired good coloring and flavor in it. The only other ingredients are sugar and corn syrup.

Staying hydrated, Eating fruits and vegetables high in vitamin a and c, trying not to lick them and applying gloss before you brush your teeth is a good idea too. looked up a couple of lip glosses - lancome, mac, and nars
i think it would be anything that acts like some kind of emollient (oil/wax). with the lancome and the nars, which are the stickiest, they use polybutene as the first/second ingredient. the nars uses lanolin oil as the first ingredient. the mac one has hydrogenated polyisobutene. if you look the different major ingredients up on wikipedia or just google them you can see what purpose they serve. if their main purpose is as some kind of emollient, try to figure out what the chemical properties of it are - in terms of molecular weight and polarity and things like that. and try to figure out how that correlates to staying power/feel on the skin.
the book ';handbook of cosmetic science and technology'; by A.O. I think more than making lip gloss last, you need to ask if the ingredients are healthy and natural in the lip gloss. I personally would never use any other lip gloss than the 100% natural brands that I buy - long lasting or not. I only use Arbonne products now. They are all natural, healthy and they work.
Mineral oil, petroleum and animal by products are not healthy and I am not into eating them or putting them on my skin. Mineral oil is the #2 ager of skin, next to the sun.
The secret to making your lip color last longer is first of all to apply a layer of foundation, dust some powder on lips and then color. After these manipulations your lipstick will not change color or dark your lips. It鈥檚 also useful to apply two coats of lipstick for long lasting lip color. Matt lipsticks normally last longer than the shiny ones.
Lip gloss doesn't stay. Its gloss so it just slides off. All the stuff where it says it makes it stay longer by putting a different coat over it is just putting wax over the top and changing it from lip gloss to lip stick.

My daughter and her friends are making small bottles of perfume, lip gloss and body splash at her slumber party and we have all the fragrance oils we need.
With that in mind I'm interested in learning what base ingredients we should use and how much to use for 1oz bottles.
For example for perfume some say use vodka, others 70% Ethyl alcohol and distilled water. For Body splash I have read use witch hazel, and for lip gloss I can鈥檛 think of anything other then petroleum jelly. The most basic lip gloss recipe of all is simple Vaseline. To this base you can add a variety of ingredients, or you can start from scratch and make your own..
Melt a tablespoon of beeswax by placing in a clean glass jar and placing it in hot water until it is soft. Add a tablespoon of Almond oil and mix thoroughly with a small wooden spatula..
That鈥檚 it! Now you can begin to create your customized lip gloss.
Want your lips to taste fresh and minty? Add just a couple of drops of peppermint oil..
Want your lips to taste romantic and perfumed? Add rose, jasmine or other flower oil to your liking..
Want your lip gloss to have color and fruity favor? Add the juice of mulberries or blueberries, enough to create the amount of color you desire..
Want your lip gloss to soften dry lips? Break open a Vitamin E oil capsule and tip in the contents..
Want your lip gloss to cure cold sores? Infuse a cup of Lemon Balm (Melissa) leaves in enough Almond oil to cover the leaves and put in in a warm dry place for at least five days. Strain the oil, add a few capsules of Vitamin E oil. Add a teaspoon of the oil to your basic lip gloss..
Keep your finished lip gloss and your Melissa Oil in the fridge. They won鈥檛 last forever so just make small amounts as you need them, and if they get left out and smell rancid, make a fresh batch..
But you can take your lip balm with you on dates, just put a small amount in a pretty little pill box.
Glitter Up
If you love the look of glitter make-up, it is easy to make your own using the basic lipgloss recipe. Add the contents of about six Vitamin E oil capsules as well, so that it will be good for your skin..
Melt one quarter of a cup of beeswax in a large clean jar over hot water. Add one quarter cup of almond oil and mix well. As the mixture cools, add in glitter of your choice,tiny sparkles, stars, moons....
You can tint the mixture with blueberry or mulberry juice, and add fragrance with the essential oil of your choice. Keep it in the fridge and use as required..
Solid Perfume
Beeswax is so useful for so many things, and it makes a great solid perfume that you can take with you so you can refresh your signature flower scent any time..
Melt one quarter cup of beeswax over hot water. Add a few drops of your favourite essential oil and allow to cool. Put a small amount in a pretty cream container or pillbox and keep the rest in the fridge..
To make it more interesting, try a blend of oils to create your own signature perfume - like roses and violets, freesias and lily of the valley..
SIGNATURE SCENT.

Keep your finished lip gloss and your Melissa Oil in the fridge. They won鈥檛 last forever so just make small amounts as you need them, and if they get left out and smell rancid, make a fresh batch..
But you can take your lip balm with you on dates, just put a small amount in a pretty little pill box.

If you love the look of glitter make-up, it is easy to make your own using the basic lipgloss recipe. Add the contents of about six Vitamin E oil capsules as well, so that it will be good for your skin..
Melt one quarter of a cup of beeswax in a large clean jar over hot water. Add one quarter cup of almond oil and mix well. As the mixture cools, add in glitter of your choice,tiny sparkles, stars, moons....
You can tint the mixture with blueberry or mulberry juice, and add fragrance with the essential oil of your choice. Keep it in the fridge and use as required..

Is Stevioside safe as an ingredient in lip balm?

And aren't you glad they have those regulations? Otherwise companies could throw any old part of a cow in a hot dog and call it ';beef'; with no further explanation. How can I search for the ingredients in lip gloss?
My dermatologist told me that I had contact dermatitis which affected my lips and around my mouth. He told me to avoid SPF and Lanolin in any lip cosmetics. Well unfortunately, the lip gloss is too small that they don't even label it with the ingredients. But Neutrogena lip gloss did have the ingredients which contains Lanolin oils so it's a no no for me. I've been researching for all brands of cosmetics online for about an hour and I cannot find any. Bonne Bell Lip Rush?
Probably about 10 yrs ago there was this lip product. It was like lip gloss, but in the tube there was colored gloss and clear gloss together and when u shook it up it looked like a lava lamp.
I'm pretty sure it was by Bonne Bell and Im pretty sure it was called Lip Rush.
I had a green apple one and a purple grape one and they tasted and smelled delicious. I don't know what other flavors they came in though.
They don't make this product anymore and I was wondering:

Where can I search the ingredients in lip cosmetics?
My dermatologist told me that I had contact dermatitis which affected my lips and around my mouth. And he said to avoid SPF and Lanolin in any lip cosmetics. I want to buy a lip gloss but I'm scared to use them coz I don't want to break out again. They don't label them with the ingredients so now I'm trying to research it but no luck. I went to WebMD but I couldn't find anything on there. So, does anybody know what website I need to go to? no i couldnt bring myself to spend it. All i would be doing as i was paying for it was think of what other useful things i could be spending 33 pounds on. There are many other cheaper brands that work well too i would just do a bit of research for something cheaper. I also like Soap and Glory's Sexy Mother Pucker. This is around 拢9, but can be bought in a set of three for about 拢20, not totally sure on the price of this one. But it does work and makes them feel fuller but also gives you a vibrating feel on your lips as though they are buzzing.

To make your own: Lip Gloss
Materials
Vegetable shortening, honey, unsweetened drink mix (eg. Kool-Aid), hot water
Use a small bowl to mix 1 tbsp of the solid vegetable shortening and 1 tsp of honey. In a separate bowl, mix the drink mix and 1/4 tsp of hot water until it is dissolved. Stir in as much of the drink mix as possible. The actual amount will depend on the temperature of water. The more you can dissolve, the stronger the flavour will be.
You can choose the color and flavor of you lip gloss by the type of drink mix you use.
Add one drop of the water mixture to the shortening/honey base. Stir well. Repeat until you get the color/flavor combination you want. Pour into a clean container or old lip gloss pot.

To make your own: Lip Gloss
Materials
Vegetable shortening, honey, unsweetened drink mix (eg. Kool-Aid), hot water
Use a small bowl to mix 1 tbsp of the solid vegetable shortening and 1 tsp of honey. In a separate bowl, mix the drink mix and 1/4 tsp of hot water until it is dissolved. Stir in as much of the drink mix as possible. The actual amount will depend on the temperature of water. The more you can dissolve, the stronger the flavour will be.
You can choose the color and flavor of you lip gloss by the type of drink mix you use.
Add one drop of the water mixture to the shortening/honey base. Stir well. Repeat until you get the color/flavor combination you want. Pour into a clean container or old lip gloss pot.

Dab on a little chapstick first. Otherwise, the colored powder will sink in the cracks in you lips and make them more noticeable.
After dabbing chapstic, pat on your chosen color, and I mean dab!
Then smooth on some carmex!
I haven't heard of anything else you can use besides carmex or vaseline, and I will admit, this homemade lipgloss is a little sticky.
What you need:

i personally have cappucino, mocha mousse, and vanilla swirl, and i love all of them. the smells arent too heavy or w/e, theyre actually just right, and each of them tastes awesome.
the metallic mocha is just like metallic brown, but mocha mousse is like a medium, nude-ish pink. cappucino is just a nude colour and also my favourite. i dont find the smell bad either, in fact, people tell me it smells great all the time lol. and vanilla swirl is a really pale cool pink.

I've looked around on eBay and the tubes and colors of the same brand lipgloss are different... Like the one in Berry 'Nilla creme, on their website it's a nude-ish peach but on ebay most of them are way darker.

everywhere i go i only seem to find the Lip Smackers products.

Okay..so I switched from softlips lip balm to carmex...?

Carmex :) I know that everybody chooses Burt's Bees over Carmex but Carmex has pros, it has SPF and fights against cold sores! Get the cherry 1 and I actually love the smell of regular Carmex
P.S. I would choose Nivea lip balm over Carmex and Burt's Bees!
Nivea has such a creamy feel to it and feels so soothing on my lips! It helps chapped lips in about a day my absolute fave! I got my friends hooked on Nivea too! Definately get Nivea over Carmex and Burt's Bees :)

Carmex= Menthol, Camphor, Alum, Salicylic Acid, Phenol, Fragrance, in Petrolatum, Lanolin, Cocoa Butter and Wax base.
I bet some of these ingredients could be causing some of the problem you are experiencing. The menthol is most likely causing a drying affect.
If you are going to be a lipbalm junkie, I'd definitely go for something more natural. I use the organic coconut lipbalm and mocha lip balm from Affordable Mineral makeup. My lips stay soft all day!

I had taken a little Carmex lip balm for my son's (10 months) lips, since we take the bus and it is under 30 degrees outside when we leave the house and since his lips got chapped and bled some a couple weeks ago, but my bf (the father) said I should not do that and he doesn't need that. Is it bad to put some on his lips before we head out?

All carmex is is vaseline, unless he knows something that we don't about when you should put it on he should be fine, vaseline wont hurt him.
As long as it's not the medicated stuff, should be fine. Or if it's just a preventative measure why not use plain Vaseline?it works just as well.
The only thing I think is Carmex (awesome stuff, btw) is really mentholated feeling on the lips. It is really ';stong'; feeling...it it may irritate a little one.
We are in super cold weather here too, and when Mag's lips (5.5 mo.) looked chapped I put a little petroleum jelly on hers.
If he didn't act like it bothered him, then I wouldn't be too worried.
I would say it's fine if the label says 6 months +. If dad's still upset, why not try vaseline? Your son may not need the medication in the Carmex -- just the lubrication to moisturize and prevent them from getting chapped again. Vaseline will do this.
I'm not a doc but I'd think that any of the nipple balms marked as safe for breastfeeding (it'll say ';no need to wipe off';) should also be safe to put on his lips.
